There is a profound benefit for individuals, communities and the world when we are actively connected to and engaged with the natural environment around us.

The supporters of Run for the Rivers seek to increase awareness of local watershed issues, provide the opportunity to improve waterways in Southwest Montana and develop a self-sustaining program that provides support to their partners.

Oh, and did we mention that we want to get out and have a fabulous run in a beautiful place? Yep, that too!

Proceeds from the race will benefit Bluewater Taskforce, the Greater Gallatin Watershed Council and Montana Watercourse. Together, these three groups promote a balance among agriculture, recreation, community and the enhancement of local water resources through statewide water education programs, citizen involvement, trainings/certifications, data collection and application-based publications.

Our race motto “Healthy Water, Healthy People” is borrowed, with permission, from “the program, entitled Healthy Water, Healthy People, [that] was launched in 2000 to promote stewardship of water resources by teaching educators and students about the relationship between water quality and human and environmental health.

Targeting teachers and students in grades six through 12, the Healthy Water, Healthy People program:

  • uses innovative, interactive activities and materials.
  • demonstrates critical water quality topics in simple, understandable ways” (Project WET, 2010).
